Mouse Activity Treatment – Detached Home with Rear Deck Pickering

Job Overview

Location: Pickering, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house with rear deck
Problem: Mouse activity reported inside the home
Service: Mouse treatment
Visits: 3

Summary

Pest Control Pickering was contacted regarding ongoing mouse activity inside a detached two-storey home. Our team completed a multi-visit mouse treatment program focused on inspection, interior and exterior treatment, and follow-up monitoring. Activity was resolved by the final visit, with no further signs reported inside the home.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached residential home with a rear deck, landscaped garden beds, and multiple exterior transitions where siding, deck structures, and utilities meet the foundation. These features can provide rodents with shelter and concealed travel routes along the exterior.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported signs consistent with mouse activity inside the home and requested an inspection and treatment to address the issue.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial inspection, our technician identified several exterior conditions that could support rodent activity. Areas beneath the rear deck showed signs of rodent presence, and multiple exterior junctions were noted where gaps or penetrations could allow mice to enter the structure. No identifying property details were recorded.

Photos provided show:

  • The rear deck area with adjacent landscaping and stone borders, offering sheltered space beneath the deck.
  • General backyard and deck surroundings with stored items and seasonal materials.
  • Foundation-level siding transitions and utility penetrations where small gaps may be present.
  • An exterior wall vent located near grade level, adjacent to gravel and foundation walls.

Cause Analysis

Mouse activity was likely driven by exterior harbourage beneath the rear deck and accessible entry points at foundation-level transitions. Gaps around siding, vents, and utility penetrations can allow mice to enter structures, particularly during colder months. Ongoing annual treatments without full exclusion can allow recurring activity to persist over time.

Treatment / Removal

Mouse treatment was performed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant exterior and interior bait stations were placed in areas of high activity. Commercial-grade rodenticide was used as per regulations to control the active mouse population.

During the first visit, additional rat activity was observed beneath the deck. Trenching and exclusion work for that area was discussed, but the homeowner chose not to proceed with that service at the time.

Exclusion & Repairs

Full exterior exclusion was not completed during this service. Recommendations were provided regarding deck trenching and sealing potential entry points to reduce future rodent access. Exterior bait stations were maintained to manage rodent pressure around the home.

Outcome & Confirmation

By the third visit, the homeowner reported no further mouse activity in the attic or living areas. Follow-up inspection confirmed no new signs of interior rodent activity. Exterior bait stations remained in place to continue managing rodents outside the structure. No additional issues were identified at the conclusion of service.

Technician Notes

The work was completed over three visits by our technician, Grant, with a focus on inspection, treatment, and follow-up monitoring. The recurring history of mouse activity was noted, and long-term prevention through exclusion was discussed with the homeowner.
