Job Overview
Location: Pickering, Ontario
Structure: Bungalow with raised basement
Problem: Nighttime wildlife activity reported in the attic
Service: Raccoon removal and roofline exclusion
Visits: 2
Summary
Pest Control Pickering responded to reports of nighttime attic activity consistent with raccoon behaviour. A full exterior roof inspection identified a clear soffit-level entry point. A humane, non-lethal removal process was completed over two visits, followed by confirmation that no further activity occurred.
Background / Property Context
The property is a bungalow with a raised basement, featuring multiple roofline intersections and soffit transitions. These architectural features can create accessible entry points for climbing wildlife if gaps or weaknesses develop.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported loud activity in the attic during nighttime hours, raising concern about wildlife presence and potential damage within the roof space.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, our technician conducted a complete exterior roof inspection. A primary entry point was identified at a soffit intersection along the roof edge. The opening showed clear signs consistent with raccoon use. An attic inspection was also completed to assess interior conditions.
Cause Analysis
Raccoons commonly access attics by exploiting weak points at soffits and roofline intersections. Elevated roof sections and overlapping materials can provide leverage and concealment. Once an opening is established, repeated use can enlarge the entry point and lead to ongoing attic activity.
Treatment / Removal
A one-way door was installed directly over the identified entry point to allow the raccoon to exit while preventing re-entry. As part of the humane process, an attic inspection for dependent young was performed, and any mobile juveniles found were safely removed in accordance with non-lethal wildlife control practices. The work was carried out by our trained technician, Grant.
Exclusion & Repairs
On the follow-up visit, after the homeowner reported no further activity, the one-way door was removed. The entry point was sealed, and surrounding exclusion materials were inspected to ensure the roofline was secure and properly reinforced.
Outcome & Confirmation
No additional wildlife activity was reported following the exclusion work. A final inspection confirmed the entry point was sealed, the one-way device had been removed, and the roofline remained secure.

Technician Notes
- Entry point located at soffit intersection along roof edge
- One-way door installed on initial visit
- Attic checked for juveniles; mobile young removed
- Second visit confirmed inactivity; door removed and exclusion inspected
Photo Notes
One photo shows roofline screening installed along the soffit and fascia area at a roof intersection. The mesh appears secured beneath the soffit panels and aligned with the roof edge, providing a continuous barrier to prevent wildlife entry.
